Really weird Problem

So something really weird is happening to my computer and I have absolutely no idea what on earth is causing it.

When I turn my computer on, about 5-10 minutes in it will freeze, screen will go black, sometimes it recovers but most of the time I need to restart it myself or a blue screen will appear.

Once It restarts and gets back into windows it works perfectly fine. I don't understand why a crashed forced restart needs to happen for the computer to resume working as it should.

Any help would be very much appreciated. (I apologize if this has been posted in the wrong section as I don't know if it's a Hardware or Software issue).

Give us some system specs eg hardware, OS, what you are doing when it crashes.

This at first sight could be a power problem, the PSU may be on the way out. Less likely but possible is the VRMs or capacitors on the motherboard failing. If that is the case then a new MB would be needed. Lets investigate PSU first though. Do you have access to another PSU of similar or higher spec to the one currently being used? If you do try swapping out the PSU.

OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series
Ram: 12 Gig.
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 960 @ 3.20 GHz
I can't remember what PSU I have.
(If any more information is require, I'll provide it)

It crashes regardless of what I'm doing, whether it's trying to play wow or just streaming a youtube video. Sometimes it doesn't crash at all, sometimes it'll crash, restart and work perfectly all day.

Sadly, I do not have access to another Power Supply Unit. Is there any other way to rule out whether the power supply is causing the issue?

Thank you very much for replying and helping me out.

So after doing some research online I discovered the windows event Viewer!

There it says something about a Kerner Power Error 41? Does this in-fact confirm it is my Power Supply?

@Flying-Q - I'm afraid all my friends are back in University, none I could borrow from :(.

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Searched that Kernel Power Error 41. Well, PSU might be the issue.
