So about 4 years ago i built the following system:

CPU AMD|PH II X4 920 AM2+ 2.8G RT
CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB)
MB GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-UD4H AM2+ R
HD 500G|SEAGATE ST3500418AS + Seagate 1TB external drive that i turned into a regular drive.

VGA SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL HD4870 1G R
CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W

I built this with little knowledge about computers back then and it has worked fine until now.

Lately however it has been making my screen goes blank while staying on.

sometimes it restarts itself after a few seconds but most of the time a manual reset is required.

The only indicator that I get is 3 slow flashing red lights on my GPU. I suspect that this is a heat issue with the overall system since i use a stock heatsink and fan for my CPU, but I wanted to get some expert opinion on this. Thanks in advance!

This is possibly a power issue. Do you have access to another PSU you could swap out the existing one for?
Although the corsair hx850 is way more than needed for his system it could have gone bad giving insufficient power to the GFX card. You would only need about 500Watts max from a good quality PSU for that system unless you are running a bunch of ancillaries like CCFLs etc on top of the main hardware.

Do you think the PSU can be the problem even if it does this completely randomly? The problem happens at least once or twice a day, and it doesn't matter if I'm forcing my system with a game or simply doing some light browsing.
