External Hard Drive not recognised when computer switched on

Hi, I have an external hard drive that my computer never recognises when I first turn it on. I have to remove and then plug it in again for it to recognise it. How can I set it up so it sees it from the beginning. Thanks, Wendy.

My PC stalls at the splash screen if I leave any of my external hard drives plugged in to USB when I turn my PC on, so I have had to get into the habit of unplugging them until Windows is up and running (for the geeks - no amount of fiddling with BIOS settings has cured this). All I can suggest is that you unplug yours before booting up and plug it in only when you actually need it.
