Hi.

I'm currently trying to fix a computer for a family member, but I'm a little out of my depth, so I thought I would ask here.

It was originally a Windows Vista machine, so that should give you an idea of the age of computer we are dealing with.

It started out with the computer being unable to boot beyond the Windows loading bar - the screen would just go blank and, while the fans/hard drive were still running, it would never load.

So, I installed the hard drive in another system and reformatted it. However, the original computer still will not boot. This time, however, it does Blue Screen for a split second before going blank.

It behaves exactly the same as if you had selected the wrong AHCI/IDE mode. However, the BIOS doesn't have an option to change it. I've Googled around the motherboard make and model and it just seems that it is supposed to automatically select the right one.

I've reset the CMOS and now, while behaving the same, it is giving a STOP 0x0000007B BSOD.

Anyone able to offer any assistance in this matter?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Sorry, should have been clearer.

I reinstalled Windows on the hard drive on the other computer. I confirmed it worked, and then plugged it back into the original computer and it is still having problems.

You cannot install Windows on one machine, then simply take the drive out and put in another machine. There are a couple of major issues that occur. 1, the install is setup with all the drivers and configuration for the hardware of the machine it is installed on. If you move it to another machine, everything is wrong for that machine, of course it wont work. The second problem is with the license, as you can only install Windows on 1 machine. If you move it to another machine, it voids the license and must be reinstalled, or reactivated if you can get it to boot.
