I have an Inspiron 530s currently, and am looking to upgrade the GPU and if needed the PSU.

Specs:

CPU - Intel core duo 2 E8300

PSU - DPS-250AB-28 (250W)

My budget is between £100 and £175 if possible.

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked'' bios and may not allow you to change certin hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warrenty claims and rtefunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you realy need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that wount post after you installed it as most find out. but its up to you good luck..

just look at the best answer here thats not from me

Hi

First of all, HP experience must not to be applied to Dell!

Dell budget PCs are upgradable to the certain degree.

The best video card to fit in and work on existing power supply is Sapphire 7750 low profile, this link provided as an example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002

PSU upgrade is not necessary for this card, since it uses only 55 watt.
PSU can be upgraded using TFX PSU form factor - those are expensive and most likely not needed for you.

I am on iPhone for the next week or so - limited forum capabilities.

ok you been warned.. this is for ALL store bought computers as you can see in my last post to him.. ha . dell acer, gateway whoever... you as easly as him can go and find all the threads that folks got these and see how far they got with this upgradeing i'm not here to try to hurt the guy just informing him how it is and what more tyhan likely is going to be his end result.. now there is a way that mite fool his dell... but i sure would not risk my money on it working

how to trick some dells------ http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1946329/gtx-650-problems.html#12273124

dont be left holding the bag...

If someone doesn't have personal experience with Dell PC - don't unnecessary scare others.

Here is my short story. I got Dell Inspiron 570 with cheap configuration. I upgraded CPU beyond Dell approved recommendations, overclocked Dell, installed SSD and moved to Cooler Master case, see my signature... And I created guide on how to do so http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19490818.aspx

I would not advise on unknown subject like HP.

well then why dont you help thoes folks that have dells and a new card that dont and will not post ?? were you at?? funny i dont see you. but i do see lots of guys thats out good money and a card that wount work on them .. and theres plenty of walmart comouters here to work on ... i dont scare them i warn them of what can happen its there choise so ... be sure that that model he got has been proven to take the upgrade first more than likely not.
