I was build a PC for my Christmas as it will be my last (big) Christmas, I was under the assumption that it was a "high end" computer as everyone who had contributed to the purchasing of the parts said that they got good hardware and software, I consider myself a noob when it comes to computers and i came to here for help. the main problem is low fps.

in games like starcraft , shogun 2, ruse and arma 2 ( all on mid graphics options) the average fps is 10 at lowest and 20 highest.

my pc specs are:
os: windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
motherboard: 97OA DS3P GIGABYTE
Gpu: NVIDIA GEFORCE GT630 2048MB
ram: 4 GB DDR3
cpu: AMD FT(TM)-6300-6 CORE

ps my cpu is running very low , 25%
and ram at 80% when in game
is this a hardware problem, if so any sugggestions, i was personally thinking of extra ram but if that was the problem wouldnt it be running at 100% ?

cpu temp 38 c in game
gpu temp 39 c in game

Solution
The CPU is midrange, the GPU is low end. The graphics card (GeForce GT 630) is most likely the problem. However, Shogun II runs great even on my old AMD Athlon 62 X2 with a Radeon 7570, so that is a little odd. What other programs do you have running in the background? Any antivirus/firewall stuff going on?

Agreed the GT 630 is not a good card for gaming and that is most likely the problem on most games. You are fine with 4GB ram, I have 8GB in my system and rarely use above 50%. As mentioned make sure no other programs are running in the background and also make sure all your drivers are up to date including motherboard drivers ect

AVG, steam, advanced system came, HD audio manager and thats it really, i have used advanced system care to play in "game mode" , it just stops unnecessary apps, and that didn't help so it probably is the graphics card, do you have any suggestions for the new hardware? I have £150 budget but this is something i am willing would save up for, after all ive just got a handfull of games from the steam sale :p, rendering in 3d modeling programs is fine. also if i get a better graphics gard will extra ram be any good or is it just a better graphics card i need, i can get a good deal for 8GB of ram which will work with mine.

What resolution is your monitor? What wattage is your PSU? What PC case do you have? It would be best to know this before recommending anything graphics card wise, to minimise any chance of issues.

No worries. Just keep in mind if you go for something above a 650 Ti (certain GeForce 660s for example), you need to check it will fit in your case.

I'm sure it is but you should see an improvement after uninstalling ASC.
