I have an old Sony Handycam (CCD-TR515E). This videocamera uses Hi8 tapes and I want to modify it to make it able to save video in a hard disk. I think I could do it connecting something to the video tape recorder, but i´m nor sure about how it works.
Somebody can help me?

You can get a USB video capture card that runs in to a PC and saves to disk. You can't modify the actual camera to save to a disk on its own.

USAFRet is correct. You will need something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... to be able to capture the video to a hard drive. I looked at the manual )http://www.sony.lv/support/en/product/CCD-TR515E/manual...) and saw that it has the RCA jacks for video and audio output. The only other option I can think of is much more complicated and involves using another camcorder as a pass through to the computer.

I'd like to build an analog-to-digital converter device and put it inside the camera to make the it work as a digital video camera. Now I am using the camera as you said, converting the videos in the computer.
