I need to install XP Pro on either my ASRock Z77 Extreme4 based machine or my Asus M4A89GTD Pro machine. I understand that it will require creating an install CD with Se4rvice pack 3 slipstreamed in. I just realized I seem to have lost the only XP Pro full install CD and only have XP Pro Upgrade CDs (along with CDs for NT, 2000 PRO etc, to use as the underlying OS for the upgrade). Is it possible for me to create a slipstreamed CD(which includes SP 3) from the upgrade CD ? Or is there any other way that I can install XP Pro on either of the MOBOs I mentioned above? Thanks in advance for any advice or other help anyone can give me.

MMmm? I wouldn't recommend XP Mode, it is a bit of a work as you found. Have you ever tried a sandbox from www.virtualbox.org? Bascially your running a Virtual OS inside your main OS, that is isolated from the main OS that it perceives itself as a full blown computer, and you can run any number of copies, types (DOS, XP, Linux, whatever, 16bit 32, 64, etc.) and variations you like (for example have one 'image' set with IE6 still installed, while another have IE8).

The best thing is the ease to restore, you just load the image and back exactly as it was created no matter if your actual hardware bit the dust on one system and this is now on a new system. This is also effective for older apps you may need to still run as well but on...
No you would incrementally have to install. Why are you still with XP? Consumer support is dead for XP, and upgrading from NT/2000 to XP is a bad idea, especially with any modern system components. There is deals for Win7 on PickParts for as low as $59, but normally a student can get it via the college website/campus store for as low as $49.

Be alot less hassle, allow you to use the latest hardware / software (alot of products are no longer 'XP' compatible), latest security features, and still supported.

Tom:

Thank you for your response. I've got Windows & Pro running on one machine and XP Pro 64 bit running on another. There are a number of programs and other software I use frequently that won't run in the 64 Bit OS. The last two of my old XP Pro machines finally bit the dust (unrepairable). I want to install a dual boot to XP Pro32 bit on one of the Win 7 64 bit machines or the the XP Pro 64 bit machines. I've tried working in XP Mode and find it far more trouble than it's worth. It is more practical for my needs to just install a dual boot to XP.

I would suggest this to get you by, but like those people whom posted the same thing about thier Windows98 / Windows 3.1 software back when we moved to 32Bit OS, your facing the same thing, time to upgrade that software or pay to get it coded for the new enviroments.
