my filters I ordered are going to be late, so I was wondering if I can just stretch a ladies nylon over the whole case to prevent dust for a week till I get my filter kit, will it add static, any safety issues?

go ahead and lol and lmao me I am already but I had to ask

Solution
as long as the a/c filters arent too thick that material works fine.

you could also use the blue ones used for furnaces and cut them down or peel them apart to make them thinner.
I'm thinking it's not the best of ideas since it's unlikely you'll be able to maintain airflow through the nylons, most case fans just don't have that amount of static pressure. I'll suggest cheesecloth or something a bit more open or (my personal method would be) simply leave it unfiltered for the time being, then once you get your filters, blow out the PC real good and put the filters on
If you feel you absolutely must use nylons there, I'll suggest only covering the intake fans but I'm still not liking it.

I found another solution. for 99cents at home depot they have big sheet air conditioner filters designed to keep dust out of your ac. they are thin and can cut to size, with some black tape I can put them on the outside then toss them, for a dollar seems like a deal, what do you think

nylons? thats a new one.

for temporary use it shouldnt be a problem at all.

since it is stretched so thin to cover a pc case i dont think its going to hamper airflow. just make sure its stretched pretty good.

ideally foam would be used or some other filter material however with filters already ordered its kind of pointless to buy more and using whatever you have around the house is best for budget.

you're still going to get some dust inside the case regardless of filters or not... you could always run without filters for a bit too. your choice.

i dont see a problem here though and i live in a dusty house! (we burn wood for heat so lots of dust)

Perfect!

Nice idea but prone to failure due to the nylon also would cause the holding in of heat, and then catch fire. The trick would best be served only to stretch it over the vents themselves. As for static, I dont' wear nylons but if memory serves correct YES!!!! and only takes a very small 'charge' and POOF process / RAM and possibly GPU - malfunctioning with only replacement as the option.

charge attracts to the outside of a computer case. this is why we use them in the first place.

while i do agree to some degree about nylon holding in some heat, with good airflow out it shouldnt be bad if only used on the fans. i highly doubt you would get to a high enough temperature for the nylon to catch on fire. sounds pretty far fetched.

in any case it looks like he will use a/c filter material or heater filter material which is a much better choice anyways.
