missing Hdd space

I removed a HDD drive from my old laptop to use as an external drive it showed that there was two partitions one of 2G the other of 147G as it was a Hitachi 500G i cant seem to locate the missing memory .
Any help locating it would me much appreciated.Paul

thanks for your reply ,I ran easeus ,it found many files,but it got to building a tree after 29 seconds it failed,I ran this through twice and same thing happened.I guess i will only have 147 G available.
 
Was the drive an OS drive? If yes, it could be a hibernation file or Windows restore points that can account for some of the missing space. If you look at the drive in Disk Management what do you see? It should show you the partitions and any unallocated space.

First, it is possible there is unallocated space depending on the drive was formatted and the partitions were created. The OP never stated the drive had been reformatted.
Secondly, how did you arrive at formatting as FAT 32 is going to create more space? Formatting as FAT 32 limits the file size you can write to the drive. While it would allow the drive to be compatible with older OS's it is probably not the way to go.

Ok, please explain how it creates more space that is not seen by the end user. I'm not trying to argue with you but I really would like to know how this is possible.
