I can't see my "simpledrive 1TB" USB external hard drive model 96300-41001-170 across 2 macbook pros (one with vmware fusion version 4) or my windows 7 Compaq Presario laptop.
The windows lappy does not have a function to show hard drives or usb ports in the bios that I can find. It's an HP and I get to the BIOS by ESC then selecting F10 BIOS Setup. I found at the following HP webpage that I can configure the boot order of hard drives, but it doesn't show the connected drives like on some other BIOSes.
http://
The hard drive doesn't show in disk manager or windows explorer/finder, but it does spin up when connected.
I found the problem and will post it in the comments.
The problem was that the contacts on the usb port on the hard drive were dirty. The solution was to spray some contact cleaner on the port. The hard drive showed right up after connecting it!
