I have an old IDE seagate u series 5 30gb hard drive which is about 6 years old which I am trying to connect to my PC.
I have connected it to a usb convertor (I have 3.5" External hard disk enclosure by Dynamode) but it seems as if there is no power getting to to it? I.E The light on the front of the connector isn't coming on and the drive isn't showing on the PC?
Is it that my hard drive is knackered, or do I need to do anything else?

Hi Both,

Yeah the enclosure has a external power supply. The enclosure has a white 4 pin connector which i plugged into the hard drive (presumed power cable) I also connected the long black connector to the hard drive, I then plug the power supply to the front of the enclosure and the little red light that shows power on the enclosure doesn't come on. If the hard drive isn't connected and I plug the power into the front of the enclosure, the red light comes on?

I hope that makes sence.

Kind regards and thankyou for the help.

Paul

Hi

The only things left to check are the jumpers on the hard disk to select:- master , slave or cable select
master is usually the best option.

also check the 40/80 way ribbon cable is not upside down at the drive end
there should be a notch on the connector to prevent getting it on the wrong way round
