Hello all,

I ran CPU-Z to look at my system settings and discovered under the memory tab that my DRAM Frequency was 1199.4 MHz. I currently have 2 8GB sticks (DDR3 2400 MHz) installed. Should I be concerned about the 0.6 MHz difference, and if so, how could I correct it?

Thank you so much for your help!

No, you shouldn't be concerned about a .6MHz difference, are you kidding me? It's nothing both in terms of a part to the whole, and in terms of the fact that it's probably just a rounding / reporting error.

No big deal, you're fine, a number of things could cause the slight difference ;)

Thanks guys! I just wanted to be sure before I ran memtest and went any farther with my setting up my system. I'm new to a lot of this stuff but I'm really enjoying learning!

One other question (and this may be kind of silly) - do I need to run memtest before installing my OS? I only ask because I'm following this guide to tune my PC for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and it states to run memtest before installing Windows. Is this only to avoid the hastle of installing an OS only to find your RAM and/or motherboard is defective? In other places I've checked, it seems people have ran memtest after installing their OS.

Either/or, it doesn't really matter, Memtest runs independently from Windows, many just go ahead and run Win, then if they do encouter problems, they run Memtest to see if DRAM is an issue (that's what I tend to do, memtest should be run on each stick individually and takes hours to run the full suite of tests, I generally only run 4-5 passes on each when I run it
