My son received a GTX 770 Winforce OC ver 4 gb for Christmas.
system specs:
Motherboard:ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3
cpu: amd fx 8350
Power Supply: coolermaster 700 watt. The new graphics card runs much slower than the old XFX Radeon 7850 dbl dissipation. Has tried many different drivers and he gets loads of stuttering. Any ideas about what we should do - other than return the new $$ graphics card?? :)

Solution

if you want to make sure it's not a software issue , i would recommend backup your data and do clean windows install and then install the latest driver if the stutter happens then as you said yourself you tried on different monitor so that left us with motherboard or gpu maybe the motherboard chip-set don't go well with the gpu or you have faulty card which we only know that if you tried the card on different system
the motherboard might be overheating... that's a much hotter and bigger gpu then the old 7850 and it might have changed the airflow in your case. try putting a few 80mm or 92mm or one 120mm fan over the northbridge/vrm and see if the stuttering goes away.

update the motherboards bios

and yes, make sure you've removed anything to do with AMD drivers

He did remove the AMD drivers but after he reinstalled the old graphics card and the new drivers were still installed, it continues to stutter.

stuttering or lag? because it's different thing the lag usually caused when low fps and stutering is caused when he gets decent fps but the game simulates consistent pause and what type of games he is playing @ what resolution ? and what's his gpu usage and cpu usage along with temps

so to make this clear 7850 was fine on 144hz and 770 gtx is stuttering on 144hz?
