computer turns itself off if I try to play a game or watch video

I have been struggling with trying to fix this particular problem.
My computer runs fine until I need to put it under a little bit of a load, installing or playing games, watching a video etc. It will turn itself off instantly. Most of the time I will need to wait a few minutes before I can turn it back on.
I have changed the gpu, ram and psu. I have done a clean install on a new hard drive and can surf the net, open files and pictures etc. It is running at a nice even 38 degrees C.
Could it have been a motherboard issue all along?

Solution
The GIGABYTE GA-770T developed a reputation for being an unstable motherboard. Random BSODs, lockups, random reboots were a common occurrence.

It cant be a psu issue I have tried two different psu's, one 600w and the other 850w. both have been tested and work fine in other computers. specs are variable as I have tried many different combinations to get a working computer. cpu is Amd athlon II, motherboard is gigabyte 770t, ram 4g corsair vengance, graphics GTS 250. and yes I know its all very old, but it has served my mother rather well so far, just needs to keep working for a little longer.

at this point I cant look at any logs, I have now pulled it to bits (there was just a little frustration coming out!!) I do recall the event logs previously saying software problems, which have now been fixed with the clean install and yes the cpu 38C.

Ok so you have used 2 different psu's, 2 different graphics cards, that leaves the memory, mb, or CPU.

Assuming your CPU temps are what you (the sensor) says they are then that should not be the issue.

Run a memtest on the memory (if it will stay running).

If they pass I would say the mb is going. Then you really have to decide whether it would be better to just buy a new comp rather than replacing ancient parts.

yes I agree on all counts. This is where I am at at the moment. Trying to convince mum that spending $1000 in one go, or $50 to $100 here and there is my biggest problem! Will give it another go though. Thanks for confirming my thoughts, I thought I was going crazy there for a while.
