First Build Part Advice?

This will be my first time building a computer. The only experience I have is from internet research and opening up an old pre-assembled desktop.
I will be purchasing parts as soon as I know what I need.
I want to build a new PC because my HP dv7 laptop is getting old and is having cooling problems. If I can fix it it will probably go to my dad.
[Right now I have it sitting so that the fan that is having problems is right above the fans on my cooling pad]
I will probably be able to spend max 1400$. I do not need a monitor, although if there was a good opportunity I would get one.
The computer will be used mostly for gaming. I would like to be able to run high setting for most games. [World of Tanks, Borderlands 2, Civilization 5 are the games I'm playing at the moment.]
My high school is trying [and for the most part failing] to create opportunities for students to use computer and phones etc. to help with school, so I will need to run programs like MS Word. I already have them bought though.
I will need to buy an OS. I would like windows 7, but if there was a better deal on 8 I would try it.
I live near Edmonton, and go in every couple weeks or so.
I really have my heart set on an Intel processor and Nvidia graphics.
My friend bought something from Newegg and had a horrible experience, so I'd rather not buy from there.
My aim is for this computer to be very upgradeable, to keep it relevant. I wont be overclocking right off the start, but it is something that I'd like to try. I'd also like to try liquid cooling at some point.
The case that I want has colourful LEDs and a window, so I'd like components that go with that. [Preferably red]
Ok, so, parts:
CPU: Intel i7 4770k
GPU: Nvidia GTX 770 Not sure about Manu. or model.
Case: Thermaltake Chaser M-K 1 (or is it I?)
PSU: undecided
RAM: 8gb
Hard drive: don't know. around 500gb. I was thinking about getting the Samsung 840 EVO that was on Newegg for about 300$, but didn't get it. I think a HDD I ok for now, but I hope to get an SSD at some point.

The case I chose because it looks nice, has lots of room, tool-less, liquid cooling options and lots of fan places.
I was thinking of getting an MSI N770 TF 4GD5/OC with an MSI mobo, because of VGA Boost, colour, and because my friend loves his MSI laptop.
For RAM I was thinking I could get 1 8gb card, or 2 4's if it was cheaper. I think getting cards with large cooling fins would be alright, because the case is big and should have good airflow. And red.
Crap I forgot mobo. XD
Motherboard: the case is a standard ATX. I was thinking a 140$-160$ MSI motherboard, if i got the MSI graphics.
I have the models Ive been looking at on my ipad. I'll add things when I find them.
Note that I am starting from scratch, so I'll need things like thermal paste, ties, something to ground me etc. I havent really checked if the money math works.
I tried to do this like this guide said: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/353572-31-build-upgrade-advice
Sorry for this being so long, and thanks for any help!

Here is the 770 and mobo I'm looking at:

http://us.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-G45-GAMING.html#overview

Also, I have not used the Amazon Prime free trial yet, and could activate that when I buy.

edit: I forgot another important thing, and that is that I want to be able to SLI in the future.

That sounds great, although I think that for now I wont get the SSD.
For the water cooling I was going to try my own loop, but not any time soon. My hope with this computer is that I can get something that will work now, but has opportunity to be made better in the future [when I need to and have the money :p] with things like overclocking, liquid cooling, SSD, without just replacing things.
Thanks!
