I have this motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

I have this memory: CORSAIR, 6GB (3 x 2GB) XMS3 PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.65V SDRAM DIMM, Non-ECC

The motherboard specs says: Supports 3 channel DDR3 2100+ memory.

My questions:

1) Is my current memory slower than what it could be? It could be 2100 mhz but the Corsair installed is 1600mhz? Am I reading that right?

2) I would like to double the memory to 12gb. I have 3 ram slots. All 3 are used. What should I replace this Corsair memory with? Maybe 3 4gb pieces of DDR 2100mhz? A newegg link to what I should buy would simplify this greatly for me. :)

Solution
1. Yes.

2. 3 x 4 GB. Don't expect much extra performance from 2100. I'd recommend 1600 or 1866. Kits of 3 sticks are getting a bit rare at retail.
