HP Pavilion Elite HPE-400y PC (2008-2010) Not sure of release. Lookin mostly at upgrading motherboard and processor if that would help run games better. $200-500.

Motherboard: N-Alvorix-RS880-uATX (Alvorix)

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 945

RAM: 8GB, speed PC3-10600 MB/sec

Case: Mid-size ATX

OS: Windows 7

Disc Drive: SuperMulti DVD Burner with LIghtScribe Technology drive

Hard Drive: 1TB, SATA, RS: 7200RPM

Power Supply: Corsair CX600M Modular

GPU: Radeon7750 Core Edition

Not sure what can be done to upgrade. Any advice would be helpful.

Reason for Upgrade: Want to have a better gaming experience.

Only upgrade worth doing is a better graphics card if you want to keep that system. That depends on your budget and what size GPU your case can handle. It should be able to handle any midrange card, though.

Its not possible to upgrade the motherboard or Processor to help run games better? What you mean by keeping the system? What do you recommend for the GPU?

Case is proprietary, so changing the motherboard is difficult. It is easier to just get a new case. You might have to get a new copy of windows then as well. GPU depends on your budget. I wouldn't go above an HD 7870, R9 270/270x though with that CPU.

I dont mind buying a new case. Just wondering how much of what I already have, that I could keep for the new build. And work from there.

You can reuse everything but the motherboard and case really. Windows might be necessary as well.

This would give you a good start that will still give you an upgrade and allow for future upgrades as well. The motherboard will support your current GPU and will allow you to upgrade to an FX 8320 later.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($99.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card ($205.66 @ Newegg)
Case: Fractal Design Core 3000 USB 3.0 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($54.99 @ Microcenter)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($88.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $449.62
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

So I could use the old processor in the new build and still run games ok? Like on decent to high settings. And thanks.

You should be able to run at decent settings. More CPU dependant titles will probably give you some trouble, but your CPU is still fairly capable till you can afford to upgrade it.

what would be your choice of a processor? My budget is more of a willingness to spend. So just trying to see options. Sometimes spending more now, saves money later. Like I bought my last gpu and it wasnt as big of upgrade as I thought it would've been.

FX 8320 would be my choice for an AMD rig. FX 6300 at minimum.
