Hey guys, I have a quick question that hopefully you guys can answer soon, as I'd love to upgrade my CPU.

Here are my specs:
I recently upgraded from:
i5-2500k
TO
i7-3770k
(Link - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007SZ0EOW/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
(Link - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128506)

When I tried installing the new CPU (i7-3770k) it seemed as if it would start just fine. The cpu fan would turn on, but the screen would stay black and after about 8-10 seconds the computer would turn off. This would continue over and over unless I unplugged the power.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

How exactly can I see the without opening the case. Is there somewhere in the device manager I can see maybe?

Also, I'm pretty nub at computers for the most part.. where exactly would I update the BIOS?

You need to open the case to see that >.> I guess you bought a OEM "Gaming" PC

First off sorry if this may sound bad but check that no thermal paste has touched the bottom of the cpu or the socket. A friend called me to check they're pc after upgrading there i3 for an i5 with the same problem your describing and that was the cause, all we did was clean it with some isopropal alcohol and let it dry and it saved a big headache.

Tried doing what you said with @bios. Downloaded the f7, plugged it into @bios to update. Them after it installs, tells me to restart the computer so I do. Now when I restart it goes to loading operator system "BOOTMGR is missing, ctrl alt delete to restart"

Now my computer is completely out of use.

Ok don't know how I fixed it but I managed to get back on my computer. I changed the boot sequence in BIOS and chose a harddrive. Now I am scared to touch anything, how exactly can I update my BIOS to F7 without it doing this again to my computer?

Or do I actually have F7 on one of my harddrives and now if I replace my i5 to the i7 will it work?

I'm so confused.

Actually, just looked to see what version of BIOS I have and I found this.

When you updated the bios, it's default settings which defaults to checking ports sequentially so your boot drive isn't in the first port. It's not an issue as long as you just change the boot sequence.

Now that it's updated you should be able to change the cpu and it'll work.

Thanks, I'll give it a try in just a minute and let you guys know.

One question that might be off topic, but how much thermal paste should you put on the CPU when you install it?

I have a new problem... I think. I have turned off my computer, unplugged everything, out in the new i7 CPU and turned on the PC. Now I have a problem of my monitors are black? The computer is on, runs fine, fans are on, but my screens are black.

Any ideas?

The default beeps, I'm not sure. Do I count the beeps?

I tried resetting the CMOS (Taking out the battery, waiting 3 minutes.. putting it back in).

I'm doubting it is the PSU.. the computer fans and everything seems to work fine internally. The things that are not working are the monitors, keyboard, mouse, etc.

I mean, I DO have the I7 BIOS installed right?
