Hi guys last week I accidentally turned my pc off and on in quick succession which has led to my motherboard dying. My mobo was a ga-ma770t-ud3p. I have since ordered a new one 970a-dsp3. Which arrives tomorrow.

I would just like to be advised on the procedures I should take to ensure I keep all my data from my hard drive.

Whilst shopping for a new mobo I gota bit eexcited and just did pretty much a full pc upgrade. Which includes a ssd,

My question on this is, could I just install Windows on my New ssd and browse my old hard drive to retrieve my important files. After I've set my computer up with its new components, or might I be able to start Windows normal with my new mobo and old components and store anything I need on an external hard drive? The 2 mobos are same sockets so that might be a possibility. I'm just thinking there may be some conflict which might prevent me from starting Windows as normal.

Cheers guys

with same motherboard manufacturer you can swap and go with minimal changes... just set everything up like you had before. to migrate to ssd is a little tricky to keep all your stuff intact. but yes you can browse your old hard drive after install to ssd to move stuff around between your old hard drive and a new data drive... or you can clone your c drive to the ssd if the partitions are the correct size and you use a nice freeware utility to do the move for you...

Thanks for quick responses, really appreciated! Another quick one, I have a few pieces of premium software's that I've paid for am I able to transport these? Copy the program files data or something? Another quick one is once I've installed my new ssd and made appropriate migrations can I use software to 'security clean' my old hdd so all old data is ereased? I've never used such program so I'm unsure of the flexibility they offer

Hi the old hard drive is still good(I hope) would I be right in thinking a power surge would only kill my motherboard? I'm hoping to use all my old components for a new/old build to sell on to recoup some of the cost for the new one! just wanted to make it fresh as new to to use as a secondary storage /porn drive (joking aside) all my software I care about was purchased and sent using email thinking back back so I think I'l be able to sort that out, cheers for that
