I need to build a new computer for my parents. They need a pretty simple computer just for simple office work, web surfing, youtube watching and all the basic necessities.

My budget I'm hoping for $500 after tax. I live in Canada, I'm gonna buy the parts from NCIX and/or Canada Computers.

Any suggestion builds are welcome. Thank you all in advance

likely something similar to what i just built for a relative....
a6 apu (or a10 apu if its in budget) .... amd apu have better graphics than intel chips but weaker cpu.
fm2 motherboard matx size
1866 2x4gb ram (high speed ram is essential for apu)
small ssd or 1tb hdd
430w corsair modular psu
matx case such as the cougar spike or antec one

My fault on the last post. Just noticed you said Canada.

the parts in this list arent all from ncix or canada computers but should all be from ca vendors so the pricing should be comparable. feel free to swap out some different parts if you like

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD A10-5800K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor ($116.98 @ Newegg Canada)
-honestly not too much less performance than the newer 6800 at a better price. you could swap out with the a6 if dual core is okay but i'd keep the a10 myself.
Motherboard: ASRock FM2A88M EXTREME4+ Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($87.00 @ Vuugo)
-i went with a higher end motherboard (and the extreme at that) because most of the low end fm2 motherboards have glaring issues. just read the
-newegg usa reviews of them! some very major issues i dont trust.
Memory: GeIL EVO Veloce Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($73.99 @ Newegg Canada)
-fast ram, decent cas. best for apu performance.
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($59.99 @ DirectCanada)
-average 1tb hdd. could go with an ssd if you trim back in other areas.
Case: Cougar Spike MicroATX Mini Tower Case ($39.99 @ Memory Express)
-good small sized case with usb3 and good cooling.
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($48.98 @ Newegg Canada)
-i'd rather go with a different psu... but this was the cheapest one i trusted.
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($18.00 @ Vuugo)
-2nd cheapest i found in the list...
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($93.87 @ DirectCanada)
-win 7 is cheaper and better
Total: $538.80

if you do some searching around for deals or rebates or mail in rebates you could probably do a bit better on component pricing. i just built something similar for about $413 usd ($438cad) but you dont get any of the rebates or deals that i do here in the usa unfortunately.

anyways... just an idea for you to look into. i gave you a few different options. a little over budget but with some trimming here or there or looking around for the best deal from vendors you like its possible to trim it back to $500cad.

I havn't bought the parts for the computer yet, I was wondering if anyone wanted to do an updated parts selection for me? I'm not sure if anything has changed.

Thanks so much again

Nothing has really changed at that budget. Prices go up and down and you could swap out a AMD APU for this i3 and GT 630 but the price wouldn't really be that drastic of a change as of right now. This system will be snappier than APU build and will handle YouTube, Email, Microsoft Office and other basic tasks no problem.

Here is a sample AMD APU build. Both builds will will have no trouble with everyday tasks.
