So I am currently using a run of the mill modem with a built in wireless router for my home internet. It is ungodly slow and I wanted to know if getting a dual band wireless router would help me out. I just got an nvidia shield as well and the streaming with my wifi is terrible for it, my PC gets 60 fps on skyrim and streaming to my shield at 720 gets me 20 fps. Would a dual band allow for seamless internet and streaming use? Would I need to buy a new modem or can I just hook the DB router to my current modem? Thanks

Depends how much $ you want to spend but as a general rule those all in one router/modem provided by ISP are very bad if you have cable i would get a motorola modem and i would recommend Asus router such as N900 one of top rated these days and you can manually adjust the wireless power on it essentially giving more power into antennas so it can go trough walls etc better. as for your question if you can hook up a router to your modem it depends on the modem if you can disable the router inside the all in one modem/router.
