I purchased a Dell XPS 8700 special edition. It came with a GTX 650 ti, but I would like to upgrade it for the msi gtx 760 tf 4gb. I figure it is a good solid card that will be useful for a while. I am really curious what psu I should upgrade the system to be able to use this card?

More about : psu dell xps 8700 gtx 760

Gotta make sure the PSU has enough power and it can fit in the case. Then does the case support longer GPUs?

MSI makes great GPUS. I know I've had 2 of them. However, I don't recommend the 4GB model. You only need a 2GB 760. 2GB is plenty. You only need 4GB GPUs when you game across 3 monitors. And if you do so you probably have 2 GPUs.

The MSI 760 4GB sells for $315:
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 4GB Video Card ($314.98 @ SuperBiiz)

You can get a 2GB one for $65 less and it will game the same.
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card ($249.99 @ Newegg)

My setup is as follows:
Intel i7 4770 4th gen
gtx 650 ti 1gb
2TB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive + Intel SRT 32GB SSD Cache
16GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz - 4 DIMMs
I believe the current power supply is only 460 w so I know it will not support either of the gtx 760 s

I was going to go with the 4gb one because it was twice the vram for only about 20% more. I want the card/computer to be useful for a while and the board sadly only has 1 slot, so no sli for me.

That's a great setup for editing work. I now see why you want to up the GPU. For gaming at 1080p the 650ti is very low. If you are willing to spend $315 on a GPU then I'd get a 770. It is the next level above the 760. It will max out all games, except Crysis 3.

This is the one I'd buy:
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB Video Card ($329.99 @ NCIX US)

Also, look for a 600W PSU.

Oh, that seems much more affordable than the msi gtx 770. Would you mind suggesting a couple PSU? Sorry I am relatively new to this and all help is greatly appreciated.

Recently EVGA has made some excellent GPUs. The SC ones are all around fantastic. So you will get the evga 770?

I'd look for a 550-650W PSU made by Seasonic, XFX, or Antec. Top quality manufacturers. I have a Corsair one but it is manufactured by Seasonic. Also, can you measure your current psu to make sure other PSUs will fit?
