Why can't I get both VGA and HDMI outputs together from an MSI R5450 video card?

Because HDMI is current and VGA is not. That's like asking for an iPhone that sends telegrams, though a bit less extreme.

Thank you but my lack of knowledge about graphics must show. All I am trying to do is display the same image from my desktop computer (Win7 Ultimate) on two monitors using the MSI video card outputs. It was very simple for me using another desktop computer that had nVidia card installed..

Oh, that does have VGA and HDMI on it. You just want the image mirrored on both? Open AMD Catalyst by right clicking your desktop, go to desktop management, and click Change to Duplicated, 3 from the bottom.
