Thanks for the quick reply - Question - can you update the BIOS with the new processor?

I bought my board in Dec /2012. I did some bios upgrades, but burnt out the CPU in like march (long story involving overclocking, water cooling, board out of the case, a cat that saw another cat out the window and freaked..etc).

SO my cpu currently is dead and I didn't have the $$$ at the time to replace it..right now the 4930 are selling for less than a 3930....

SO if I can put that new one in and apply any bios update then I'm set!

No, you'll need to use an SB-E processor to get into the BIOS and flash the new one. Same thing happened with regular Sandy Bridge boards that gained support for Ivy Bridge with BIOS updates, they require a compatible processor installed to be able to flash the BIOS.

OK. Guess I have no choice but to go with the original CPU - or spend another $300 on a new MB that supports the new CPU..

Damn, I love to upgrade! My bank account doesn't though...
