Long story short: I was messing with wires under a table, and disconnected my DVI-D from my new PC to the monitor while the computer was turned on. When I reconnected it the monitor would not show anything, so I turned off the computer by holding the power button because I did not have much of another option. I rebooted to find windows telling me that I had a problem that it was attempting to diagnose. After 15 minutes of this it told me that it could not fix it, and gave me the options of refreshing, resetting, and other advanced options (none of which worked). I tried all the options besides resetting, I wanted to keep my data. However nothing worked as had not yet created any sort of backup or system image (I just built it a week ago and hadn't gotten around to it yet). Realizing that my only option was to reset and reinstall everything, I attempted this. It prompted me for my "Windows installation or recovery media." I put in my windows 8.1 disc that I installed from, and was told that "The media inserted is not valid. Try again." I then changed the BIOS settings to boot from disc, and attempted to reinstall. This did not work as it would not accept my product key. Finally I tried booting from disc and using the repair setting there, which led to the same result as doing it from the previous, asking for the disc but not accepting it as valid. When it first boots it says that the log file is D:\Windows\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt It boots to safe mode everytime I turn it on unless I change the boot priority to the disc drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Again I am running windows 8.1. Thanks!

Don't understand why your Product key was rejected! One more thing to try...

Boot from your Installation disk as before, select Repair and then Troubleshoot/Advanced Options. Select Command Prompt and type bootrec /fixmbr then Enter (note always a space prior to /)

Other CMDs to try

sfc /scannow

chkdsk /f /c

If all fails, contact M'soft regarding your Product Key...

Easily done, especially the way they print 8s and Bs...
SFC, or System File Checker is a good one to note down, it is useful if you suspect Windows has a problem.
