Laptop 1:

3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3230M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.2 GHz)

6GB Dual Channel DDR3 1600MHz (4GBx1 + 2GBx1)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M with 1GB GDDR5 VRAM

Laptop 2: Intel Core i7 3630QM 2.40Ghz

16 GB DDR3 Ram

Geforce GT 650M 2GB

Noting that laptop 2 is a handme down from a relative. I have a choice between the handmedown and the new one, being laptop 1.

I would also say option #2. But one point as far as gaming goes even with the Geforce GT 650M 2GB you will need to play most games low-mid settings and keep the resolution some what lower than 1080p as it will not have to power to handle most new games at 1080p. I think for most games setting them at 720p medium graphics setting should give you a nice playable frame rate/resolution that you could be happy with on a laptop.

But remember that some games will just not play correctly no matter what you do on a laptop simply because they were not made for a laptop.

But beyond the GPU on option one you also have a very good CPU and plenty of ram to do what ever you want. So with every thing combined it would be your best bet as long as...

Personally, my choice would be laptop 2. Its better for gaming. As long as it's in good condition, and a good price, that be the one, I'd go for.
