I have a 2 TB External Hard drive that corrupted somehow (i blame my lack of IT know how), I have almost 1.5 TB of very important info on there and when i tried to access it, it told me to format the disc. It is showing the name as Local Disc..... I have tried to recover it, it only partially recovered the information after almost a week but then the next day it did the same.... I am at my witts end as i even tried to Format it but it doesnt allow me to do anything it just freezes. Help will be much appreciated

Try another system or OS. Windows simply cant read the drive. Or replace the USB cable of the drive, see what happens. If the problem persists and you are desperate to recover data, then open/break the case/caddy of the external drive, and connect it directly to the MB of a desktop system, as a second HDD(non-boot). Hopefully you will be able to recover the data.

Note: Opening the caddy may void the warranty of the drive.

Download and create a bootable Ubuntu Live Disk and then boot your system with the disk. Try to mount the drive in question and if successful, try to peruse the HDD and if successful, copy the remaining contents to another drive.

If you attempted to format the HDD in question, there is a very good chance that you made things more difficult in recovery.
