Hey,

My brother wants a gaming PC but he has a very small budget £200ish.
I was toying with the idea of building him one but wouldn't be very cost affective, I built mine maybe 2 years ago now and money wasn't to much of an issue so I over speced everything.
Now that money is a concern I dont know what the minimal requirements would be for a gaming PC.

Any help advice would be apreciated Thanks

I see most people here are talking about modern day super PCs. But I think you can still build a decent PC even when you're budget is low. When I had my first PC back in 2001 it was an AMD Duron 1.1GHz, 32MB ATI rage II ultra with 128MB RAM :p
But I played many realistic games even I couldn't call it a gaming PC :)

So you should try a latest generation Pentium dual core 3.2GHz, 8GB RAM and an entry level graphics card like Radeon HD 6770 or Geforce GT 640/650. And don't forget to get a decent power supply since most cheap unbranded PSUs can kill any PC parts with ease. Cooler master or Antec 460W will be fine.

£200 would be hard, no OS no monitor nothing.
If you can manage to get an Hdd and maybe a case or a power supply or another component then £200 can get you a build that can run games at 720p decent settings and frames

What specs are we talking though, will a duel core pentium processor do? 4Gb of ram?

I would also suggest such a build. If you can't stretch your budget then go for the HD 7750, will need to lower graphics but will be able to play decent games. I have built with the HD 7770 and Intel G2030, 4 gb ram and im happy with the build. Plays SC2 on highest settings. Have played also Deus Ex - plays fine. I think BF 4 on some medium/low settings will be also playable. :)

I will say that with E8400 Dual Core at 3.00, 4GB DDR2 ram and HD5670 you can play games on lowest and in 1024x768 but still not completely smooth although you can enjoy(talking about most recent games).

Quad core, at least 4gb ram, gpu like gtx650 (maybe) is something really minimum to achieve good enjoyment in lower resolutions.
