Ok, so basically I'm getting a new pc soon and I need ideas on how to run my Ethernet cable about 15m from router to PC

Before you tell me to get a professional to do it, no. I don't want to fork out a couple of hundred for that.

So basically I (think, unless you guys can suggest any options) have two options

1: Run them under the carpet
Or
2: Run them through into the attic and back down into my room.

Which is better? Or is there other ways that would work just as well?

Cheers

Solution
The best solution is up through the attic. You can run as faceplate and/or flat(square) conduit up the wall to make it look more professional.

If you were to run it under the carpet, there is a flat cable (not round) that will lay flat on the floor(under the carpet).

Solution
Well to be honest into the attic and down to the room.
Just keep the cables away from mains electrical runs, for the lighting circuit for the upper floor.
And if your fussy use some cable trunking to smarten it up a bit for the run from attic down the wall of the room intended.

Hi Wardmanhd,

Either option will work, but as stated running it through the attic would be the better looking option.

The main thing to look out for here are possible interference such as running it over electrical cabling, close to air cons or anything that can give out electrical interference. If you won't be able to stay clear of interference, you might have a look at a STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) cable that won't get interference, but they cost more.

Hope this helps,
Fred

Alright, thanks for the ideas :)

For going through the attic, that would probably work, but in that room we have cupboards and stuff everywhere that there could be a small hole behind I guess :)

As for the carpet thing, the flat wire sounds interesting, I'll look into that.

I think I'll try carpet wiring first and if that works and works well then I'll keep it. If not, then I'll put it through the attic :)

Oh and thanks other Shaun and Play3r for those tips, I'll make sure it's well away from any other electrical cables. And to keep it staying there, some good old duct tape should do the trick?
