Barely audiable click from HDD

So I got something weird. An HDD is making a barely audible click or more likely "tic" few times then disappears for minutes or even hours. The computer is perfectly stable, no problems whatsoever. Is this an early warning for the "click of death"? The hard drive is 1TB Seagate, around 3 years old. Any idea of some kind of a software tool I could use to see if the tic sound comes from the HDD head actuator is moving around, trying to recover from errors? The hard drive has not been hit, dropper or whatever. This thing started after the computer was off for 2 weeks, unused, during the vacation.
