Hi All,

What is the purpose of the v/c in a HTPC? Does it do something better than an on-board GPU (strictly in terms of watching videos and listening to music)?

Also, i see that the Radeon 7750 is a popular choice, why? whats replacing it?

as above - if all you're doing is watching movies, then there is no need for a separate video card UNLESS your motherboard doesn't give you an HDMI connector directly.

if you have a fairly old machine that doesn't have HDMI output, or you play games, or you need to use graphics card video decoding - then you might need to get a video (graphics) card.

95% of the time, though, you don't need it for movies.
for viewing movies the integrated gpu is plenty. especially the amd apu-s and the recent 4xxx series intels. the 7750 is a favorite for htpc that serve also for light gaming because it's extremely powerful at a max 75W power draw which is what you can do max without a pciex power connector.

and there are also low profile versions.
