It'll play games just fine. Question is: is it worth the price? Prebuilt companies make a profit by charging more than the cost of the components and including arguably unnecessary hardware configurations.

Yeah, too much. There's currently no reason to pay $100 extra for an R9 290x over a gtx 780 unless you're a gpu miner. And IMO for $1600 I would expect at least a quad core i7, which is overall a faster chip than the FX 8350. Plus I'm sure the brands of other components like the PSU and hard drive will be sub par.

r9 290 is $162 cheaper than r9 290x

have in mind that the computer is coming with a $180 24" Widescreen 1920x1080 ASUS VS247H-P 1080P (23.6" Viewable) 2ms LED Backlight, DVI, HDMI Input and also mouse and keyboard

r9 290 is only 1% slower than r9 290x but if you want real gaming get i7 4770 and gtx 780 or r9 290 .
