So I just installed the CPU (i7 4770k that I don't plan on overclocking any time soon) onto the board but wasn't really paying attention and I tried to fit the stock heat sync while the CPU cover was still on. This resulted in me losing quite a lot of the pre-applied thermal paste on the cover and I don't have any more. There is still some thermal paste left on the bottom of the heat sync but I'm not sure if this will be ok now. I've installed the heat sync now but I don't know it it'll be ok - any advice?

- I haven't tried booting yet.
- I feel stupid.

You will definitely need to remove all of the existing thermal paste and apply more. The video linked below shows the appropriate method for applying thermal paste (the pea method, around 1:45), and also how to properly clean the old paste off of the CPU and heatsink.

I recommend using Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste; it has done wonderfully for me on both Intel and AMD CPUs, and I've used it exclusively for over 10 years now.

well you can boot like that and probably do some stuff, but its certainly not ok in way... do buy some thermal paste.

theres no point in russing, when we try to do things fast we brake them. take a day, buy some paste, 4770k will wait (pricy cpu you know)
