I have a new asus x102ba with windows 8 preinstalled. It will connect wirelessly to wifi hotspots but not to my home wifi. Other devices connect to my home network but not my win 8 asus.
I have tried switching the wifi on/off
switching the router on/off
disabling the wireless adapter
uninstalling the adapter and drivers and installing the non microsoft version of the drivers for the atheros 9845 wireless adapter
opening command centre and inputting netsh commands recommended elsewhere on the site
None of these worked.

i am thinking that my router might be incompatible with windows 8 since it is old and running wep encryption but i didn't set up the router so don't know if i can change it.

anyone know anything else i can try?

This really sounds like you aren't setting up the passphrase/password correctly on the Asus. Double-check the WEP password. Look for "0 (zero)" and "o (oh)" sorts of things.

Also, you may need to reset your router and change your wireless security settings (I would recommend doing this) to include using a stronger encryption method (like WPA, if the router supports it).

What exactly happens when you try to connect to your wireless router? Do you see it show up? If so, when you try to connect to it does it prompt you for a security/encryption passphrase or key? What error do you get, if you get one? More details please.

Its not my router so i don't want to try to alter it until i've tried all my other options.
I also tried setting up the wireless network manually but this did nothing. Am looking for a way to connect to a wep encrypted network with windows 8 but it might be impossible.

Its a shared network in a share house. I would have to ask the person who set up the network to change the router and anyone else on the network might have to change their connections but since i'm the only one unable to connect i really don't want to do this.
From what i can find online the windows 8/wep connection issues are very common and microsoft haven't or won't come up with a solution to the problem.
