I am looking to upgrade my:
Radeon XFX HD 6870 Black Edition 1GB, 4600MHz GDDR5, GPU 940MHz, 1120 Stream Processors graphics card.

I am pretty clueless on graphic cards and what's new but I would probably be willing to spend up to £150/$300 in total (unless I could sell this one and put extra money towards an upgrade).

I would prefer an intel card as I heard they don't have an issue with dual monitors and temps. My AMD card idle temp increases by 15c when a secondary monitor is connected (even if it's not being used). I hear Intel cards don't have this problem.

I mainly play first person shooters and some strategy games like civilization so a big increase in FPS would be ideal (my radeon is performing fine right now though but I'd really like a bit more powerful).

Any help appreciated.

When you say intel card I believe you mean nvidia, because intel are all integrated and a downgrade from your card.

Sorry guys I meant Nvidia lol, woops!

Thanks I will take a look at those cards, but I was more interested in the Nvidia ones for the reasons I mentioned about idle temps and dual monitors.

hello, i have the same card and from my research i would reccommend upgrading to a minimum of the AMD R9 270x retail ~$210USD. Any lesser card (660ti, r9 270 r9260x) although would give you a performance bump the gains would be marginal at best. the GTX 760 or the GTX 770 would be your best bet because it would be the most value for your money considering you are upgrading from one graphics card to the next.

Within your budget the only card that i would recomend would be a Nvidia GTX 760 it starts around $240 USD and can cost over 300 depending on the brand/ amount of ram. Just outside your price range however is the GTX 770 which has a huge amount of performance increase especially at high resolutions.

If your looking for nvidia then I'd go with the 760, if you sell your 6870 you'll have enough money for it, the 770 would be abit too much to ask for with your price range. If you manage to sell your 6870 for £100+ then I'd go with the 770 for sure :)  it's more about how much you can sell your 6870 for, if you can.
