Hey all. My ASUS power surge shut-downs are indicating it's time for me to kick my old BFG Tech 650W PSU. Problem is, I'm on a budget, and I have no idea which PSUs/Manufacturers are good, or any other hidden things I'm supposed to consider when buying a PSU.

I'd like to stay in the $50-70 range. This is my build:

Asus Z87-Plus MOBO
Intel i-5 4430 Quad Core CPU
Geforce GTX 650 (manufactured by Gigabyte)
2 SATA HDD

I intend to use it for gaming. Can anyone help me out on a good, reliable PSU that's fits in my price range, and works for my system? Thanks in advance.

First of all gtx650 doesn't even pull 100w and secondly it cannot be SLI'd.

450w is WAY more then enough. His computer will likely pull no more than 250 under full load. Like I said, my GF uses this same PSU for her i5 and 7850 build. Measured with a Kill-A-WATT, her computer pulls no more than 280w at MAX load.

The CX line form Corsair is made with inferior capacitors and is NOT typical Corsair quality. I would skip the CX line for sure.

http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx it is a tier 2 unit and the only reason it is not officially 80+ certified is because it does not have an active PFC. It has been shown on many hardware review sites to pass the test for 80+ SILVER. It is indeed a VERY high quality unit. The 620 is WAY more than his system needs and will barely run at 40% under full load. I promise his computer is never going to pull more than 250w like even 200w under MAX load.

Thanks all! I appreciate all the feedback. This forum is incredibly helpful. I picked up the 450W Antec after doing a bit more research myself. I did a Wattage calculator, which put my PC at about 327ish Watts. It was cheaper than my budget, too, which was a big plus. You guys rock!

Are there going to be any adverse effects to not having an active PFC?
