Windows won't boot - I get an 0xc000000f error on loading and the Win 7 boot CD isn't remedying the problem.

I had the system repair tool running for three days to no luck, even running the Windows disc itself took about 30 mins to load.

I can't access the hard disc via command prompt or Ubuntu disc to retrieve my data (which of course wasn't backed up).

I tried running chkdsk but it looked like it would also take about three days, and most of the files it began to check came up with errors.

I'm fairly experienced at keeping my hard disc free of viruses or malware so am surprised by the sudden loss of the drive without any real warning. Are there other any ways to get my data off without turning to expensive professional help - and from the description, would that even be worthwhile?

Thanks.

Remove it from this machine and slave it into another machine. If only the boot sector is messed up then you should, in theory, be able to copy your files off of it. After that, nuke the partition table and try to re-install windows on it. If you still have no luck the thing is toast.
