Hello guys,

I started having problems with my r9 280x last week. First I started getting weird colored screens and a massage saying "Your video driver stopped working and recovered"... After that I started getting flash screen and artifacts, also sometimes it would go to a colored screen (brown, green, white...) and after that the computer would turn off.

So I tried a LOT of things... I tried multiple drivers... I even re-installed windows 8 on my computer and nothing worked...
So I took my brother GPU (he has a 7970) and tested it on my computer... It worked all fine with no problems... So I knew it was the GPU problem...
So after that I tested the R9 280x on his computer.... I played for almost 2 days some games with no problem at all!

But... After playing yesterday for about 3 hours and today for about 5 hours it started again...
I think it is very weird that I could play that long without any problems and now it is back...

So I really don't know what to do... I think that if it was a big problem it would not even work on his computer... Now on his computer the only thing that is happening is like flashing some colors on the screen every 2-5 minutes... sometimes it stops... Also I just got a brown screen while tapping but it came back to normal...

Hope someone can help me!

Lucas

Edit: Also I'm pretty sure both power supplys are fine... I have a Corsair TX850 on my computer and my brother has one Corsair TX650
Also the TEMPS are fine... On my computer brothers it started to get the flash artifacts while I was using google chrome and temps were low.

Edit2: After some flashing colors it will come back to normal but the mouse cursor will be 5x bigger and will only go back to normal after booting the system.

Have you tried it in a different PCI-E Slot?

My PC has only one PCI-E Slot and as I said I tested my brother's GPU on my PC and it was all good so I think it is not the PCIE slot...

It is strange, I do not know why it would work in his and not yours, and his work in yours. Doesn't make much sense to me. You could try to return it and see if the next one works fine.

Me neither... Also it is weird because it worked for hours and hours on his computer while gaming until it started to happening... In the same time I could not even turn on my computer with the r9 280x on it...

I misread if it also happened on his computer eventually it is definitely a faulty card, send it back and perhaps get a Sapphire card is what I would do

That GIGABYTE card has crappy customer feedback. Looks like a manufacturing error.

Someone said they RETURNED it and got a refund because it was out of stock. So hurry up. If it goes back in stock, they will likely stick to the RETURN/REPLACE method.

EVERY SINGLE R9-280X is having issues. The Asus DC2U has the best reviews but about 20% 1/5 scores mentioning artifacts etc. That's no right.

You may wish to consider an NVIDIA card as they're cooler and have minimal issues. It's a little more money, but the EVGA 780 ACX 967MHz model is awesome.
