Friend replaced hard drive and recovered all files and programs such as Office. Everything working OK but if someone emails jpeg, mov, etc. files I can see icon but cannot download or play.

Then it would seem some file associations are missing or invalid.

Wouldn't it be such as right click and open with this program or that program? ???? never encounted that before for myself.
That would probably work. But since there was a drive crash, and a 'recovery' to a different drive..it is unknown the extent of the weirdness involved.
Please bare with me -- went to: Control Panel>>Default Programs>>Doble clicked Set Associations, went down to WMV, double clicked and selected Windows Media Player. Went back to email (Yahoo) double clicked icon and got no response. Suggestions???

Yahoo mail in the browser? You probably have to set that association in the browser settings.
