DDR 3 dual channel slot question

Hi all, I'm new to hardware configuration so forgive my ignorance:

I have a Gigabyte GA - Z68 - D3 - B3 mobo and just bought two new sticks of 8g dd3 dual channel memory. Do I need put them in slots 1 and 2 or in slots 1 and 3. Slots go 1, 3, 2, 4 on the board and slots 1 and 2 match in color.

Put them in the same color. It's in the manual. If in doubt, the bios should say it's in dual channel or check cpuz.

see ur motherboard manual page 15
install memory in slots label ddr3_1 and ddr3_2 which should have an empty slot between them. picture is black and white so I cant tell if they match colors or not
