I have a windows 8 toshiba laptop and i dont know what happened but my volume keys and all the keys at the top like brightness up and down and airplane mode stopped working. I installed all the updates toshiba gave me for 8.1 but nothings happened. Now those buttons only work when i in my library and i can press volume up and another key to say create a folder, HELP!!?!??

i also tried the view local service thing and nothings changed. Also if i press the brightness up or down key it opens a search bar on my computer

Just a quick google search makes it seem like Toshiba runs those through its 'value added package'. You may wish to uninstall/reinstall that? There also may be a BIOS update in order. If all fails though there are 3rd party keyboard remapping utilities that may be able to provide you the same functionality. Here's the top link in a google search: http://www.technorms.com/31627/how-to-remap-your-keyboard

DOn't worry
This thing happened to my keyboard also
You just have to download a software named as
- SHARPKEYS
- install it
- Press the key you want to set for volume
- then on the righthand side choose what do you want that key to work as
- THen restart your system
its DONE!

u can contact me for further help

Regards

Hi sorry to reply so late but I only purchased my Toshiba in March and the keys stopped working 3 days ago . So here's the story. When I turned on my computer I received a message to disable some apps so the computer would run faster. Fine. CTRL ALT DEL Task Manager. Not knowing which was was I clicked on the tab labeled "Startup"I the diabled "Toshiba Function Key Main Module" and "Toshiba System Settigs Service". Cool...NOT!! The next time I restarted my computer my top keys stopped working(bright/dim, diable mousepad, volume etc)...NOOOOO! So...CTRL ALT DEL Task Manager...enabled those two apps. restart the Lappie and (cue Heavenly Choir) my top keys are functioning again!! Hope this helps. Oh! My Laptop is Toshiba Satellite C75 Series 64 Bit Winows 8.1.....
