I keep having issues where my computer freezes, the pc and monitor stay on, but the image is frozen with no response from the mouse/keyboard. I tried refreshing windows 8.1, clearing out any overclocking settings, and updating my windows files/drivers.

My system is as follows.

Windows 8.1

AMD FX-9370 Vishera 4.4GHz Socket AM3+ 220W Eight-Core Desktop Processor - Black Edition FD9370FHHKWOF

ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard

CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ16GX3M2A1600C10R

Samsung 840 pro, 265gb SSD

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850M 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Semi Modular

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+

Any thoughts or suggestions?

first update the firmware of the disk, then in OS OPTIMIZATION put it to maximun capacity or maximun performance (its your choice), change the sata cable too, do a maintenance to the OS (ccleaner), update the motherboard Bios too.

Then, if everything fails go back to windows 8.

Which test are you suggesting I use? Is there a configuration I should be using as well?

If all of the above fails....check your event log for an ACPI driver error. I had similar problems with my build recently and found it wasn't actually my Samsung ssd...it was an asus mobo issue with the ACPI driver that you can download from the asus website under utilities.

then is a motherboard problem with the sata connectors or some bad configuration/behavior that is causing a malfunction and the freeze. Or maybe, maybe is a video card issue, the video card can freeze the screen too.

Oh good, we've ruled out so much... Joking aside, that's pretty much where I am at. I ordered a new video card, so hopefully that resolves the issue unless someone else posts a new idea for something to try.
