Hey guys, I'm thinking of finally upgrading my pc to meet the requirements of next generation gaming but I don't know what to change and what to keep other than the graphics card. So I was hoping on some guidance on that front.

This is my current System information and I don't know whether I should I get a new processor with the current Motherboard or whether I should factor in the fact that I need a new motherboard and power supply and cooling system. Help would be appreciated on what I should keep and what I should replace.

Thank you in advance for the asistance.

    Intel Core i5-4670 Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150(cheaper)

Intel Core i5-3470 Ivy Bridge 3.2GHz(cheapest)

Motherboards:

    GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-D3H LGA 1150 Motherboard

    ASUS Gryphon Z87 LGA 1150 Motherboard(cheaper)

    Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H Gen 3 Motherboard(cheapest)

GPU:

    NVidia GeForce GTX660TI 2GB

Solution

Been away from site so didn't see your responses.

minimum atx.

Im talking about the size of the MB. Motherboards comes in different sizes. The Z87 Gryphon is a mini atx while the Z87 Sabertooth is a not ATX

Here is a picture that shows the difference in size.

When you buy a PC case they will list which size motherboards they support. A small board will ofcourse fit in smaller caes while a larger board is much...

At least we can't fault you for providing us with plenty of information (Int 5h, Print Screen Service is supported Yes........We really needed that;-) )

Back to being serious for a minute. What is your budget and what is your need?

Because I would honestly start completely over. If you want to play newer games, you need a new CPU, and while your GPU has a pretty good value if you were to buy it today, it is quite a bit outdated at this point.

If you have the money, I would start over. Find a good decent motherboard, a decent but not expensive quad core processor and maybe a gtx 760.....

Here is an comparison of your current card and the top cards at the moment

Those are some pretty good components. The NVidia GeForce GTX660TI 2GB is slightly old now...But the difference between the 600 and the 700 series is not THAT great.

I have to admit that im more of an NVidia man, So im biased and would go with intel and NVidia most of the time.

All the processors you listed will do just fine. And far better than what you have been used to. Look forward to it!;-)

Nothing that beat that feeling when you open your new computer for the first time....

ASUS Gryphon Z87 LGA 1150 Motherboard(cheaper) = AWESOME CARD! I am getting the ATX sister card(Sabertooth z87) in a few months....Both are part of the new TUF(The Ultimate Force) series from asus and are very high quality cards that are made for long lasting.......Asus has a 5 year full warranty on those cards just to back up that point.

There is a special plate and the back of the motherboard too. almost impossible to bent.

Intel Core i5-4670 Haswell 3.4GHz LGA 1150
The Gryphon
and the 660 TI

That is a very decent pc my man.

Thanks I'll definitely take that into account.

Another question though. Will getting the Gryphon motherboard mean that I'll have to buy a cooling system other than a fan? or does it come with its own prepackaged one?

Im not sure whether it comes with a small fan but if you buy the armor kit to the gryphon (30-40 bucks), there are extra fans included to install directly on the motherboard in vital areas. If you go after the sabertooth, that kit is already included.

Here is a video where they go hands on with both the gryphon and sabertooth.

BUT there is no reason what so ever to buy any cooling system for the motherboard with that build.

You will have to take a look at maybe buying a CPU cooler to replace the stock intel cooler but that is pretty cheaply done.

Are you dead set on it being mini atx?

Not quite sure what you mean by min atx. You mean the motherboard? Because yeah those are the Boards that are readily available. By the way are their any boards that are similar or would offer the same quality as the Gryphon that you would recommend?

Another question is an Intel Core i3-3210 Sandy bridge 3.3 GHz as good as the one you suggested?

When you buy a PC case they will list which size motherboards they support. A small board will ofcourse fit in smaller caes while a larger board is much easier to work it.

Regarding Sandy Bridge - No its not as good, but its a very good compromise to make. Multithreading is not very important in the grand scheme of things. GPU is ALWAYS more important than CPU....that CPu will not give you bottlenecking.,
