Hi there I was wondering if you could tell me if a Gigabyte GTX 770 2GB Graphics card was compatible with my Gigabyte G1.Guerrilla Gaming Motherboard ?

It's a 3 year old Mobo so I'm not sure but I hope someone will have the answer!
The last bios update was in 2012 so I'm not sure if it will work in my system !

Help

Thanks

James

Yes, it's compatible. Just read this carefully :

Quote:
2 x PCI Express x16 slots, running at x16 (PCIEX16_1, PCIEX16_2)
* For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16_1 slot; if you are installing two PCI Express graphics cards, it is recommended that you install them in the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots.

What is your PSU?

Your motherboard defeniently supports it because it has a PCI-E express x16 slot but you will proably have to update your bios before installing it. Can you please link your whole spec so i can make sure nothing bottlenecks it?

Well thats seems very odd. Your system is very good and everything supports everything. Are you sure everything is plugged in and such. Try going into bios menu and boot up from the hdd (spam f12 when you turn on your computer until you get into bios screen). If everything goes wrong, you can always try to reinstall windows. I don't have any better tip because it seems like its a pretty solid system.

My old GTX 460 worked fine after the black screen with the GTX 770. I was so confused when it kept happening. The only thing I can think of is am I putting the GTX 770 in the wrong slot. But I just put it in the big green slot (there are 3 on my Mobo) and that worked for my old card so I thought it would work with my new card.

Maybe the card is faulty ?

Here is a picture of my motherboard it might help you give me the right answer.
http://www.gigabyte.com/fileupload/product/2/3776/3948_...

I use the middle green slot (PCIEx16_2) It worked for my GTX 460 so why not for my GTX 770 ? :S

Should I try all 3 PCIE Slots ?

In my first post I quoted from the manufacturer that for optimum performance you should use PCIEX16_1 slot

And one more thing. GTX 460 uses 2x6pin connectors, and GTX 770 one 6pin and one 8pin, did you do this right? Or maybe you have 2x6pin on your GTX 770 as well?

1 · Number of power connections 4+4pin. ATX/EPS 12V: 1 · Number of power connections 6-pin.

It has one 6pin which you used on the GTX 460, and it also has 4+4pin which I don't think you can use as a 8pin on the GTX 770

I don't know if im seeing wrong but your psu only have 30 amps on the 12v rail and the gtx 770 (gigabyte) requires atleast 42 amps on the 12v rail and it does not deliver that. However can you check if there is 2 aditional pins attached to your PCI-E cable?

According to PSU specs, it shouldn't have 2 additional pins on the 6pin connector. Although Trimax mentioned that he used 6+2 which is fine, but I don't know where he found those 2 additional pins.

that Foldalot linked delivers what the card needs but don't think its some big future proof psu. My advice is get that if its cheap and then maybe buy a cheap one in the future when you need to replace the gtx 770.

Here a pic of the power input on my 770. http://legitreviews.com/images/reviews/2218/gigabyte-gt...

I have a 6pin+2pin and then a 6 pin. on on one cable is that right ?

So I have the right cables? It's just I don' have enough Amps going through to power the card ?

As far as I know, you should have two cables. One with 6pin connector, and one with 6+2pin connector. Modern PSUs usually have 2 cables with 6+2pin connectors.

So are you saying I don't have the right cables ?

I have one cable that says PCI-E on it and it goes into the power supply and the wire splits into two and has two wires one a 6pin+2pin & one 4 pin. That's just on one cable, I have another cable the same that is not used.

So do I need a new PSU bcos I don't have enough amps? Or Is my card just in the wrong slot? Or is my card maybe just faulty ?

I'll reply again when I get home and check my PC and the cables. I will get a new psu probably the one you linked.
But if I do get a different one what do I need to look for in specs for my GTX 770 to work from it!?

It should have :
- more than 40amps on the +12V rail
- at least 80+ bronze certificate
- 2 x 6+2pin connectors
- at least 550W
- this site can help you with the brand choice http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

However, post here again when you'll check the cables.

I went on the internet and it says my PSU has 12V P8 connection (P4+4). Four PCI express connections.
Should that work ? Does my PSU still not have amps to power the Gigabyte GTX 770 2GB?

It has two 12V rails with combined wattage of 660W which should provide more than 40amps. As for the connectors, I already mentioned before that you have 4+4pin connection and that I don't know if it can be used as a 8pin connector.

I don't think that calculator is correct, probably it added 50W more just to be more reliable. I am pretty much sure that it won't go over 500W, even pcpartpicker says 460W.

Anyway, you'll just boot your pc and see if it works. I assume you won't start intensive games immediately.

I will see if the XFX 550w works when I get home. Hopefully I will have more luck. If not I might have to go ahead and order a 8pin.

Yes the Be Quiet PSU has two modular PCIE Cable slots, one green & one red. But do I put one the from the red one and one from the green one in the 770 or no? Or do I just use one or the other?

I also thought the PSU didn't have enough amps ?

Here are the GPU's pin slots as you posted before http://legitreviews.com/images/reviews/2218/gigabyte-gt...

All you need to do is to place a 6pin connector to the 6pin slot, and a 6+2pin connector to the 8pin slot. You already mentioned that you have one cable that splits into one 6pin connector and one 6+2pin connector, so use that cable into the PCIe 1 slot, and connect the both ends (6pin and 6+2pin) to the GPU.

Download this http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.24-setup.exe

It will show you the max. temp of your components. Start the program, play any demanding game for about 30min, and then check the max. temps reached by the CPU and GPU. Maybe it would be better if you post a screenshot here of the results.

I've selected the two readings that could be causing your problem. You should have around 12V on the +12V rail. To make sure if the CPU is not getting enough voltage check again in the BIOS. As for the temp on the TMPIN0, personally I don't know whats that, but looking up on the net I found different solutions. Some say that it's a made up temp from HW Monitor because the MB doesn't have that sensor, others say that depends on your MB. However, since you are using a Gigabyte MB I found this:

Quote:
I have gigabyte MB and the readings are

TMPIN0 - core
TMPIN1 - CPU temp
TMPIN2 - MOFSET temperature

Meaning that 106c is alarming

I have just run into the same problem but its with the Asus GTX 690's, had to send in the cards to a repair shop and come back clean, cards are working fine and was recommended to use "an X79 chipset motherboard e.g. the Asus Rampage ROG for the best performance". I have an Radeon 7990HD which works fine with no problems with the G1.Guerrilla. Is there a custom BIOS for the motherboard or the GPU's i can use to solve this problem.

First card installed windows updated sofwere and drives nextday get black screen and 1 long and 3 short beeps indicating no GPU installed.
Second card stopped after 10 minutes in the Bios while setting up Raid 0 on the Sata 3 ports.

Spent all off my funds upgrading the ageing 6970's i had in crossfire, PSU got upgraded
