Hey all, I just bought my dad new computers parts so we could build a PC for his Xmas present. We built the machine and installed the OS fine but then the machine kept rebooting every 10 minutes and it would never shutdown, it just instantly restarted after we pressed shutdown. The machine actually shutdown itself during windows updates.

So I replaced the PSU with another one that is 650W that I used for my gaming machine and we still got the same issue, my dad then removed the motherboard battery and replaced it with another and the issue still persisted but I could sit on the BIOS all day with no restart and it was only turning itself off when in and using windows, so I put it down to windows (maybe when it cut out the update installation) and we decided to format the drive and try again. So we formatted and got to the install windows screen but now it gave us errors saying we couldn't use the drive, and then it said we couldn’t format the drive and sometimes it would start and then begin to expand the windows file and at around 3% it went back to the first screen of the windows disc.

We tried 3 new CD drives and it did the same, I took the HDD upstairs and put it in my pc and windows installed fine with no errors and I could use it like normal. But now and my dad's PC, we try to install windows and get this error message:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have the driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now."

"Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

So I thought this was strange since the drive is clearly working since we can boot from the disc, so I inserted the motherboard support disk, get to the SATA drivers and try to install but it says we cannot install it.

I also used the motherboard disc to then flash the bios back to the original firmware and we still got the same error.

So now... I am totally lost on what to do, I have had this machine since Xmas day and have no idea how to fix it, would appreciate if someone could give me any advice.

I suspect that it is a faulty SATA controller but I am not sure since it worked the first time so the driver must be gone, but the disc wont let me install it.

Yeah all genuine windows 7 ultimate 64-bit discs - They work fine since we also reformatted his older pc at the same time.
Not sure what the make of my PSU is since I am in work at the moment but it is 650W and was used in a gaming pc with ATI cards in crossfire and an i7 so it shouldn't be stressed.

We have a MSI GeForce GT 210 1024MB GDDR3 Graphics Card
