Unable to access data on Old Internal HDD via USB

my hp dv6516tx failed a year ago with windows vista OS on it.Had broken connector on HDD(data portion), went to a hardware guy he connected a spare to the drive and then connected it to a lappy with Win 7 via USB.Though the HDD starts spinning(could feel it) and it shows in notification something is connected nothing shows up on My Computer.the HDD was partitioned into two_One contained only software whereas the other contained all my personal data which i wanted

Have a look in Disk Management to see if it just needs a drive letter assigning to it.
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management.

In the bottom-right panel, find the ribbon for that drive.
Right-click on it and choose "Change Drive Letter & Paths".
Click 'Add'
Choose a letter.
Click 'OK'
