Mining rig is only recognizing 1 of my 4 PCIe video cards.
I built a mining rig using an ASRock 970 extreme4, AMD Sempron 145, Power is an EVGA 1300 (most people used 1250 and were fine) and (4) Sapphire 7950's PCIe. Others have used this configuration and had it work well. The only change I made from others was adding DDR3 2133, which I had on hand. ASRock said it would be fine, but the board's RAM specs only lists DDR3 up to 2000mHz. My problem is that only one video card is recognized. The other 3 have power, the fans work, lights work, but they won't show up under Device Manager or CGMiner. I tried a 75 ohm resister in slot #2 DVI output port, in positions 2 & 5 on the pins hoping that would simulate an attached monitor (cheap Dummy Plug), but alas, it didn't work. Any suggestions? Thanks so much.

Are they crossfire/SLI linked? Is the SLI/Crossfire enabled?

sorry, this didn't come through on the first round of questions.

Idlewitt: They are not crossfire-linked. I was told this degraded the performance for mining. SLI is not activated. I thought this didn't work with non-NVidia cards. My card wasn't listed as being supported under the SLI site.

Also, I did attempt to Crossfire them. It didn't work.

After installing 3 video cards and connecting them with a bridge, uninstall the video drivers. Then install the CATALYST Control Center. You must have your OC updated with Microsoft .NET Framework prior to downloading and installing the CATALYST Control Center.

Don't know where you would install a 4th video card on a 970 extreme 4 board.

Then Restart your computer.

below copied from manual:

Install the VGA card drivers to your system, and restart your computer.
Then you will find “ATI Catalyst Control Center” on your Windows taskbar.

ATI Catalyst Control Center
2.6.2 Driver Installation and Setup:
Power on your computer and boot into OS.
Remove the AMD driver if you have any VGA driver installed in your sys-tem. Double-click “ATI Catalyst Control Center”. Click “View”, select “CrossFi-reX

”, and then check the item “Enable CrossFireX

”. Select “2 GPUs”
and click “Apply” (if you install two Radeon graphics cards). Select “3 GPUs” and click “OK” (if you install three Radeon graphics cards).

You can freely enjoy the benefit of CrossFireX, 3-Way CrossFireX

or Quad CrossFireX feature.

There are (3) 2.0x16 slots and (2) 2.0x1 slots. So five PCIe slots total. I am using powered risers, otherwise the cards would not fit next to each other.

Your manual says to update your OC and to have the right catalyst drivers installed before the video card driver. Several hoops to jump over correctly.

I will uninstall the video card driver, then reinstall and see if that helps. thanks

I uninstalled the drivers and followed the directions in the manual to the letter. Nothing. I just moved the second card into the first position, so I know it isn't defective cards, which I doubted was the case anyway. my .Net wasn't check-boxed under settings, so I checked it. It was already installed with my Windows 8.1. I have DDR3 ordered that has known compatibility with my MOBO. I have little hope that the RAM is the issue. Any other thoughts?

Try only 3 GPU's and see what happens. Maybe 2 then 1? Maybe you might isolate a bad slot?

Problem Solved.
Reinstalled drivers in correct order. That didn't fix it, but probably helped. Who knows. What did work, was unplugging all of my Video cards, except #1, then restarting. Turned off, connected Card #2, Power on. Picked up second card. Yeah. Power off. Connected #3. Power on. Found it. Yeah. Power off. #4 plugged in. Power on. Still only recognized 3 cards. Power off, unplugged Card #4 from PCIe slot 4 and plugged into slot 5. Power on. Yeah. All 4 cards recognized. Thanks for your input.
