Hey guys, as the title suggests i'm in need of help with overclocking my Q6600 which is currently clocked at a stock 2,4GHz.

I've tried going to 3.0GHz by upping the multiplier from 266 to 333. When i ran the Prime test the pc just froze completely after ~ 10 minutes. I have increased the voltage to 2.75V, but no luck yet again. I'm wondering if anyone has a lot of experience with this CPU and what would be the best setting for my PC

PC SPECS:
P35C-DS3R (Socket 775)
Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz (Stock)
4.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-5-5-15) - I don't understand the 333MHz part - I'm running 2x1GB @ 1066MHz + 2x1GB @ 800MHz
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 Evo

I have an ATX sized case with decent airflow and i'm looking into overclocking my CPU since it's outdated and i want to squeeze as much juice as possible before i upgrade.

Help is much appreatiated,

Hello!

Your Vcore is too high, my old q6600 G0 need 1.35v @3.4GHz and temps never go far than 70ºC (Noctua NHU12)

My config in BIOS:
vcore 1.35
FSB 425
multiplier 8x (425x8=3400MHz)

What q6600 is yours? B3 or G0? B3 are old and can´t OC very well, G0 is better for OC.

For your Motherboard, you should try a FSB 400 and multiplier to x8 (3.2GHz) and RAM to 800MHz (ram speed is not very important).

after reading your post aerocool, i realized my voltage was actually 1.275V and not 2.75V as i wrote above. I will give those settings a try. Do you think they212 EVO could sufficiently cool 3.4GHz? Also, how do i check which version of the q6600 i have? It's an old OEM PC.
