DVI to HDMI no Signal on TV

Hello everyone, I've searched the web and various posts, but could not find an answer/solution for my problem. I have a 24" tv with one HDMI input on it. I have my WiiU hooked up to that, but I also want to use my TV as a second monitor.

I tried a DVi to HDMI adapter, connected to a HDMI switch so I can use both my computer and WiiU without unplugging anything, but when I switch to the computer input, all I see is a blue screen reading "No signal". My computer sees the tv is indeed plugged in. It will accept all the settings, and I can move windows over to the tv screen, I just can't see them. When I switch to WiiU, all shows up fine and dandy, it uses HDMI as an output, so no adapter is needed.

I couldn't find a solution to this problem, so I bought a DVI to VGA adapter and ran the cable to the tv's PC port. This works, but gives a rather poor quality. It goes to 1080p, but the image sharpness is horrible. The setting in the tv's menu to adjust it is grayed out as well.

So my question, after all that is: why doesn't the DVI to HDMI adapter seem to work? Thanks to anyone with any information.

My Computer Specs are as follows:

CPU: Amd FX -6200 @ 3.8GHz
RAM: 16GB
Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon 7770 HD

TV is a RCA 24" LED TV

I don't think there are ways (other than testing a newer TV), but you can try:
